Re: SN2013E

Great stuff Terry

so your last was at maximum light - we should have another few weeks before it dips too far to be out of range.

Re: SN2012hr in LEDA 18880

I managed a spectrum for this SN last night.

Its a bit more woolly than Terry's effort. I mucked up my calibration routine so this is simply based on the internal neon calibration lamp. Still, it looks a fair match to Terry's work.

Taken from suburban Sydney - 7km from the CBD. 7 x 600s exposures ...

Re: HelI line?

Thanks Thierry

I'll have a play with this over the Christmas break - and take some new data if the weather plays nicely

Re: HelI line?

I've reprocessed this data. Here is my revised spectrum - after applying flats, cosmetic file and the cosmic ray filter. The HeI line is gone but I do have 2 prominent emission lines - I think they are FeI lines. I'm not sure if they are a feature of the spectrum or simply a function of my ...

Re: HelI line?

Thierry

thanks for your post. Unfortunately its a false alarm I fear - a product of poor processing on my part. I didn't apply the cosmic ray filter in ISIS when first running the program. When I did, it was removed.

Here's the spectrum as first processed - you can see why I had thought I had a ...

HelI line?

Sadly, in Sydney I'm too far south to have a go at RR Lyrae. However, inspired by this campaign, I atempted a spectrum of SS Fornax last night. At Vmag 9.5 it was within reach of my LISA.

I'm presently at work so I can't present my profile at the moment. One thing I did notice was a prominent ...

Re: Calibration - LISA and ISIS v 5.1.0

Hi Francois

I bought my LISA in March this year. I was working on a university project requiring measuring the redshift of quasars. After completing the project, the spectroscope has sat in the back of my study until I finished the academic year. With the holiday season approaching, I thought it ...

Re: Calibration - LISA and ISIS v 5.1.0

Thanks again for your help Christian

As you might expect - there was a combination of errors. For those wanting to learn from my mistakes, here they are:

1. My arithmetic is lousy. 6.8 x 2 = 13.6 not 13.8. I had entered the incorrect pixel size - as you rightly spotted

2. I had been using a neon ...

Re: Calibration - LISA and ISIS v 5.1.0

Christian

thanks for your prompt reply.

I'll check all this later this evening when I am home from work.

I believe I mistyped in my post and have the pixel size set at 13.6 rather than 13.8 microns. I'll check this.

I'm pleased to say that I have taken the steps you have outlined - at least I ...
