Re: How to measure intensity of emission lines in low resolu

Merci François, pour nous aider. You can download the three output FITS spectra files from data reduction in Demetra from here. The student also applied a response curve correction using nearby Miles stars. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/12CtNqFMBz-7O1FjOH7xnG2PCt2EsPXnC?usp=share_link scree...

How to measure intensity of emission lines in low resolutio?

I am coaching a high school student in his first science project making spectroscopic observations of Planetary Nebulae (PN). In our school observatory he is using our 36cm RC telescope and the low resolution Alpy (R=600) spectrograph including the calibration and guiding modules. The imaging CCD is...

Re: Spectra data of PN acquired with Alpy as reference

Hi Robin, great advice. I will discuss this issue when using a reducer with my student. Perhaps we won't use the reduce and instead work with different slits (10, 23 and 50 microns). His main goal is to learn, identify the main lines and enjoy this experiment. I warned him that it will be difficult ...

Re: Spectra data of PN acquired with Alpy as reference

Dear Robin, many thanks for your feedback and hints. I already stumbled across Francois Teyssier's page. I will also point the student to the BAA database to look at these low-res spectra. Most interesting would be indeed your raw data of NGC 7026 from last September. I assume that you've been using...

Spectra data of PN acquired with Alpy as reference

Dear community, I am running a school obvervatory in the city of Langenthal Switzerland (*), of course under light-polluted skies. This year I am happy to coach again a high-school student who wants to study planetary nebuale (PN) for his final thesis. In 2016, I bought an Alpy 600 spectrograph from...

Hi from Langenthal, Switzerland

Thanks ou merci à Francois pour activer. I've purchased an Alpy 600 including guiding and calibration module in 2015 from Shelyak but haven't used it so far. Finally I am starting to love it and acquired the first spectra using an 14" RC with Antik 460EX as imaging CCD and Atik 314L for guiding...
