Re: Nova Sgr = PNV J18365700-2855420

I remember V1369 Cen going through a very similar re-brightening after the first maximum, so I thought I would plot the two light curves together. They are so far remarkably similar. Nova Sgr is maybe a little slower in the oscillations, it will be interesting to see if the similarities continue ove...

Re: Nova Sgr = PNV J18365700-2855420

My spectrum of the H_beta region from 2015/03/20.634.

0.4m SCT, L200 @ 1800 l/mm, 24um slit, SBIG ST8. 12 x 300 seconds, R ~
9000.

No photometry but I made a visual estimate of 4.9. Considerable change
since the last spectrum in ARAS.

Python scripts for time series plots

Hi folks, I've released some Python code for generating plots of time series which may be of use. The script takes a series of fits files and plots a graph of wavelength or velocity in the x axis, time in the y axis. The spectra do not need to be of completely uniform time intervals. These types of ...

Re: Changes in latest ISIS fits header - resolving power. W

Did you get any answer to this Robin? Some of the recent spectra coming in to the SASER database are not showing an R value because of this change. I can add support for SPE_RPOW but it would be nice to know the rationale behind the change, and I think BSS_ESRP and BSS_SRPW in combination are a bett...

Jacques,

I'd be interested to see your bash script.

Achernar in emission

Hi folks, I took my first Be spectrum last night, and my first spectrum at 1800 l/mm. Was intended as a test more than anything, but I appear to have caught Achernar (Alpha Eri) in emission. I am not sure if this is news. The last spectrum in BeSS is from 2011/10/18 and shows no emission. R ~ 7500. ...

Re: ISIS, BeSS standard and observatory coordinates

Also worth noting is that SITELAT, SITELONG and SITEALT are more generic headers used for this purpose.

Re: Lost after a GoTo: nova.astrometry.net

It's worth noting that astrometry.net is free and open source, and can be run locally on a UNIX machine. According to their documentation it is also reported to run on Cygwin. Useful for field operation. http://astrometry.net/use.html The data files are quite large, but you can just download the set...

My best result yet, from Feb 6.491. A huge thanks to Andrei Cotiga from Canterbury Astro Society for helping me to get guiding working.
