Re: Spectral shift during sequence acquisition
OK, it is now clear to me how to use the new Wavelength Registration feature. But I am still unclear regarding the resolution issue on shorter sequence runs when the Wavelength Registration feature is not used. If I am correct, ISIS uses the neon spectrum to determine resolution, not the target star...

Re: Spectral shift during sequence acquisition
Hi Robin and Christian, I began this discussion before ISIS V5.0 was announced. When working with Be stars, I always take neon spectra before and after a sequence run, combine the 2 neon spectra in Maxim DL, and use the center point of the 6506A line of that combined neon spectrum image in ISIS for ...

Re: ISIS Ne lines
Hi Christian, Please disregard the previous reply as I think I now have the idea of what is happening in the ISIS wavelength registration process. In reading your explanation in the manual and looking at your diagrams, I somehow got the impression that I needed to use the first and last “pro” file t...

Re: ISIS Ne lines
Hi Christian, I have been playing with the new neon line procedure in ISIS V5.02 as described in the new manual. It makes perfect sense to me to use the first and last “pro” files for final calibration as opposed to the first and last neon line spectra. As you point out, this works nicely for spectr...

ISIS Ne lines
Hi All, I had originally sent this message to Christian, and he suggested I post it to ARAS. So I am posting it here along with his reply. I was unable to attach the image to which Christian refers, but it is on p. 31 of the new ISIS V 5.0 manual. Cheers, Keith Graham My original message: Hi Christi...

Hello, Before retiring in 1999, I taught high school astronomy and geology for 34 years. I have been an active variable star observer for over 30 years and have been a member in AAVSO throughout this period. I began ccd photometry about 15 years ago and just recently started doing spectroscopy. My p...
