Re: ISIS AND A NEW ECHELLE

Hi Joan, I have built an echelle similar to yours with a grating cross disperser. ISIS is quite useful for analyzing these echelle spectra. Important is the adjustment of the angles alpha, beta, gamma for successful calibration. In addition the rotation of the camera is a critical parameter. If you ...

Re: Meteor spectroscopy of fireball

Hello, in the meantime some more spectra have beeen recorded of Perseids. The results are presented here: http://www.meteorastronomie.ch/ergebnisse.html#Meteor-Spektroskopie Here an example: 0812-0813.png In addition, my method used for calibrating meteor spectra has been published together with Pet...

Meteor spectroscopy of fireball

Hello, I would like to present some recent results on a topic not regularly covered here. Yesterday a bright (-8mag) fireball was observed in Switzerland by several stations of the Swiss Meteor Network (Fachgruppe Meteorastronomie). From the same meteor visual, photographic, video, radio and spectro...

Re: Nova Sgr = PNV J18365700-2855420

Hi Robin, this looks similar to NovaDel2013, where about a month after peak magnitude this line appeared also, as can be seen from this animation, basaed on spectra from the ARAS database http://www.astrosurf.com/aras/Aras_DataBase/Novae/Nova-Del-2013.htm : @NovaDel_long2_.gif Notice that the flux s...

Re: Cooled enclosure for Eshel spectrograph

Hi Andrew and Olivier, I have some experience with echelle stability. The biggest problem I found with the heating produced by the camera cooling. I solved it by bolting a water cooled alu plate to the back of my camera, a SBIG 8300. For good thermal contact I inserted a sheet of tin foil. echelle w...

Re: ESHEL first light

Hi Francois, instead of flipping horizontally and vertically you can also rotate the camera by 180°, this should have the same effect. The image looks OK, but focusing can be improved as explained in my attached notes, which I wrote while setting up my echelle. They should apply as well to your eche...

Re: ESHEL first light

Hello Francois, Maxim writes and reads the images in a different way from ISIS, Audela and other programs. The main point is that they look the right way when opened in ISIS, red at the top for a correct analysis. For the images already taken you can flip them vertically in Maxim by a maual operatio...

Re: Cosmic perspective during twilight time

Hello Olivier, Hubert has it explained in great detail. I would like to add one thing. The sodium at this altitude is mostly from the disintegration of meteors, which usually evaporate at around this altitude of 80 to 100 km. The sodium is usually one of the prominent lines in the meteor spectrum. V...

Re: USB control of LHIRES/ALPY for just 5 euro

Hi Robin, this seems to be what I was looking for. I have used so far a 4 relais USB devive from FTDI (DLP-IOR4), which came with software but I had the greatest troubles to make it work and it cost me 20 £ plus about the same amount for customs and shipping. The ebay link does not ship to Switzerla...

Re: C2014Q2

Hi Robin,

ephemerides including radial velocity you may find here:
http://www.imcce.fr/en/ephemerides/form ... phepos.php
A more detailed view you can generate here:
http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/horizons.cgi#top
quite impressive the velocity change indeed :o .
