Re: Use of CMOS detector for faint object spectrography

I have been checking the QHY website for some time now to check on the status of the QHY42. Being a back side illuminated imager the Gsense 400BSI suffers from higher dark current (0.4 e/sec at -20C). Taking the pixel area into account this is approx. 1/2 the dark current of the ASI290MM but without...

PlotSpectra update - V1.5.2

The latest version of PlotSpectra is available here: https://1drv.ms/f/s!AvXqhKI5kEGRjEhdaQ6jaj8AHx_L This version Improves the Fit reader. - the reference point CRPIX1 is now read and used (no longer assumed to be 1). - better Handling of Fit files that contain extensions. - if the Fit file does no...

Re: PlotSpectra and IRAF cropped spectra

Andrew, I had to write the fit parsing routine myself as I could not find a ready made fits library for c#. My routine is definitely not a complete implementation of the fits standard. At present it only looks at NAXIS1, CRVAL1 and CDELT1 and ignores CRPIX1 (assumes it is 1). I will work on a more c...

Re: ISIS V5.9.2

Christian, Thanks for your patience with me :!: I now understand the differences in version 5_9_2 (and the reasons). :D It won't be a burden to re-calculate the per order response as I was doing that on a fairly routine basis anyway. With my directly coupled spectrograph there is a reason I prefer u...

Re: ISIS V5.9.2

Christian, It was not the merged spectra that had me concerned. I agree that the new version of ISIS gives the same result for the merged spectrum even if the old per-order response is used. What is not the same are the INDIVIDUAL orders that are produced. With versions 5-9-1 and earlier the individ...

Re: ISIS V5.9.2

Christian, Thanks for the significant update! While exploring this new version I have come across something a bit confusing. It appears that the per order response that I had calculated using version 5_9_0 does not work with the latest version. Here is a plot of the individual orders for Vega using ...

Re: New PlotSpectra version 1.5.1

Tony - Very strange. I downloaded the PlotSpectra folder and have no trouble with the text files. I just double click and they open in notepad. Perhaps you could right click on the text files and choose: open with - notepad. Gerard - I can not re-create your problem. I have tried applying various IS...

New PlotSpectra version 1.5.1

I have uploaded my latest version of PlotSpectra to my OneDrive folder here: https://1drv.ms/f/s!AvXqhKI5kEGRjEhdaQ6jaj8AHx_L The new version has the following added features and fixes a few minor bugs. On the Line stats dialog: - added polynomial continuum fitting (up to order 4). - added box for n...

ISIS problem with echelle processing

Christian, I noticed on your last spectrum of AX Per regions of enhanced noise in each order (shown magnified here) axper_20171020_900_cbuil.png I do not think this is real but is instead a problem with ISIS processing. I have been experiencing this same phenomenon quite often and have devised a wor...
