Hi from Belgium

Post by Erik Bryssinck »

Hallo to all members of ARAS,

I am relatively new in the world of astronomical spectroscopy. I'm busy since 2005 with actively observing, but most of all, almost 100% with observing of comets with CCD. My first step I set in 2014 with a staranalyzer 100 to try spectroscopy, i was intended to also taking a spectrum of a comet in the future. I found all at once that I had to build a whole learning curve here. I've bought recently an Alpy600 kit with guiding and calibration unit. I was surprised with my first star spectra, very exciting! Then I started to observe the Be star. I have now my first spectra of Be-star and struggling a bit with the first calibration and use of IRIS. But i can ask the specific questions in 'the beginnerscorner' i guess. Unfortunately, I live in a heavily lightpolluted area, 10 km south from Antwerp City. Fortunately, I can occasionally use remote telescopes for observing comets, but unfortunately, remote/robotoc observing with spectroscope is not possible (remote maybe, but not yet robotic). I hope i can contribute and building my learning curve further in this matter of spectroscopy and use of software and spectroscopes.

clear skies !

Hello Erick,

Your 're wecom on the forum and spectroscopy world.
Yes, the first steps with ISIS are difficult because the soft requires *very accurate data* to give a result. This is the guarantee of a perfect result.
But, once you've got the method, and follow strictly the acquiistion protocol it works easily.
Note that there are remote telescopes for spectroscopy. For instance Joan Guarro obtains all his low spectra with a fully remote scope, a few tens of kms from his house.
All the best,
François Teyssier

Thanks François! I'm still strugling with ISIS to get this working... but this can't me stop, it's not a show-stopper.

kind regards
Erik

Salut Erik,
