Hi Carl,

Indeed, best way to send it is by direct e-mail , so not via the forum.
You can send it to marc.trypsteen@yahoo.com

KInd regards,

Hi Carl, Marc

You can attach fits profiles as a zip file (as in this example attached) or you could upload them to the BAA database
https://www.britastro.org/specdb/

Cheers
Robin

Indeed, Robin, zipping is a possibilty, thanks for the tip.
However sometimes zipped files are blocked when downloading nowadays by Spamfilter software or similar protection software behind firewalls.

BTW, I'm looking for a possibility to integrate a logo I've created for the VV Cep Campaign. What could be the best way to upload the logo?

Kind regards,
Marc.

Hi Marc,

zip files might be stripped from emails but zipping works fine on this forum. Another trick is to change the extension from fits to txt though I have not tried it here.

I am not sure if it is technically possible to put up a separate logo but you in any case you would need to organise it with the ARAS members who operate the forum. Personally I think a separate logo would be out of place on the forum as ARAS operates as an informal open group, rather than a place to run organised campaigns from. (For example I am observing VVCep for personal interest not as part of any campaign). A logo etc might better suit a separate campaign website.

Cheers

Many thanks Robin, for your clear point of view.
I will ask the forum operators about that.

The interest in VV Cep is certainly growing also at the AAVSO: https://www.aavso.org/aavso-alert-notice-594

Kind regards,
Marc.

Hi Marc,

Yes I am closely watching the B mags reported to AAVSO.
https://www.aavso.org/apps/webobs/resul ... esults=200
Unfortunately there does not seem to be anyone monitoring U though. (We miss Jeff Hopkins and his PEP measurements which would be ideal for a bright target like this)

There you write/say something, Robin.
The driven and remarkable Jeffrey would certainly be measuring the VV Cep 350 nm band right now.....
I've only been in contact with him for a short time when I was reviewing his book. Unfortunately we must miss him.

Anyway we could send a proposal to the AAVSO-PEP observer group ( I think the contact person still is Jim Kay, but I'm not sure) for adding VV Cep to
their target list, which can be downloaded as an excel file via: https://www.aavso.org/pep-starparm
Otherwise is there someone in Europe who has an Optec SSP-3 or 5 ?

Kind regards,
Marc.

Dear colleagues,
has the eclipse really begun?
I would like to show the Halpha line flux (as delta Vmag corrected EW of the time span JD2457124 (April 11, 2015) to now (upper diagram of the attached Fig.). This quantity is not the line flux in physical units, but a quantity proportional to the physical line flux, corrected for continuum variations. I used this data in order find out some information about the character of the flux variability (period analysis, program AVE). The Scargle periodogram (middle Fig.) shows a period at approx. 200 days.
I don´t want to say that this period is really existing, but it gives at least an impression of the character of the Halpha (quasi) flux variability. Also the V&R EW of our monitoring seems to be at least not constant (but cyclic?). Question is what are the causes? Dense variability in the outer atmosphere of the M super giant?

Very interesting approach, Ernst.

Possible (non linear) pulsation cycle detected here?

Marc.
