AZ Cas eclipse... 150th spectrum celebrated !

Post by admin »

Hello all,

AZ Cas eclipse which will last through the year and part of 2014. Several changes have been seen in the spectra already.

Spectra are collected for analysis on ARAS:

Here is an exemple of changes seen around Halpha:

And the official campaign webpage with both spectroscopy & photometry data:

Last but not least, look at ARAS forum for latest observation and professional comment on amateur spectra:

Cezary Galan, the professional astronomer leading this campaign, "intends to show them (at least some selected ones) at the conference which will take place at Koninki near Kraków (Poland) on 12 May (http://www.as.up.krakow.pl/mt2013/o-konferencji/). The theme of the conference is the use of small instruments for astronomical observations - something what is perfectly in line with your activity, and I think it is worth to show there your excellent results" (from a message he sent to all campaign members).

He also mentionned earlier: "It is nice to see such impressive results. [...] We already have a very good coverage and it will be even better.
[...] This campaign has significantly exceeded my expectations".

We now have more than 150 spectra collected! Congratulation to all spectroscopists that are participating. If you have not tried it yet, I would recommend you to point your spectrograph toward this target which is well visible in northern hemisphere. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any assistance in observing AZ Cas - this is a great opportunity to join a professional/amateur collaboration project.

Cordialement,
