Hello Hamish,

Pulsating stars such as RR Lyr have rapid evolution during their pulsation cycle.
As RR Lyr pulsating period is ~13h, time series is needed to study it, ie adding spectra must not be done.
Etienne's spectra exposure is 600s, as anoted in the animation's title.
RR Lyr maximum duration is about 30 min.
Maximum's date is needed to study astmosphere's dynamics and Blazhko effect.

In our last A&A paper, we've described a "typical" pulsation cycle:
https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2019A ... G/abstract
But variations from cycle to cycle isn't tretated there. That's why observations are needed.
