Last night, I have try to use a high resolution spectrograph (R=30000) on RS Oph.
This is the whoppshel spectrograph :
https://www.shelyak.com/produit/whoppshel/?lang=en

I have a small telescope of 400mm in diameter, so not realy the good size for this echelle resolution (and many clouds during observations) but I can have a wavelength range from 4000 to 7200Å

Here’s some graphs around H alpha and H Beta

Hello,

Those are some graphics from Piera, with a SC16 + NOU_T echelle + ASI2600MM camera.

Regards, J.Guarro.

]hello,

a quick comparison between 09/08 and 10/08 low-res spectra of RS Oph, to be continued !

StarEx spectra of RS Oph for the 10-11 August from Antibes. StarEx is the stellar version of the low cost SolEx instrument dedicated to the solar observation (a 3D printing setup !).
The spectrograph is on a 200-mm Newton telescope working at f/5.

The Halpha region at R=1700 (600 lines/mm grating version) :

The UV region at R=1350 (by rotating the grating knob):

The reasonable UV limit wavelength is here 3640 A.

We can note that StarEx is capable of fine astrophysics despite a low cost. Some examples for same spectral region, Vega:

My attempt last night (10th) using my C9.25 and Lhires III with 23m slit riding on a CEM60,captured 9x60sec images. I chose Vega as reference star, and RS Oph profile normalized at wavelength 6498 to 6503. Used ISIS to carry out calibration and Vspec to create chart.

Hi All
This is my effort from last night.
I used my LOSPEC at R=~4700 and my LHIRES R=16000.
Interesting to see the difference that the resolution makes.

last night, good night, and now bad weather is coming back :(

so here is a low res comparison between 09 and 11 august, 4 spectra by night (1/hour):

I had my LhiresIII in "CaK-mode" so I shot RS Oph in this region on 09-Aug-2021:
Image
After this date, I changed to "Ha-mode" for spectra on 10 & 11 Aug21:
10Aug21:
Image
11Aug21(Out of 22 only 9 were worth processing because of cloudy skies):

We seem to be having a good run on exploding stars! (NOTE: Most CaK lines identified are tentative)
Any thought appreciated........

Hi all,

great spectra! Joan, your profiles are *top level*!
