Thanks for the reply. I might stay with the 3D print machine since the cost is relatively low and it may have other uses besides the UVEX3 project.
I only picked the Filament type of Carbon Fiber PetG because it was being used by the Christian and the others with finished spectroscopes.
Also keep in mind, if your not in a hurry, that Shelyak might sell the main body as a metal unit in the near future; 3months to 1 year from now?

Be carreful filament with carbon is less easy to print than without.
The printer must be closed because the temperature to use it must be high (minimum 280°C of memory) and printer noozles must be higher than 0.6 mm because can clog easily. So be carrefull with 3D cheap printer ...

I've just received my printed UVEX parts from a commercial 3D printing and fabrication house (using laser sintering in nylon PA12, which has much better properties than more common nylon 6). It's not a cheap method, but the parts are very, very rigid, with a nice smooth finish. I have difficulty believing that metal parts with realistic dimensions would be very much more rigid. I won't have much time this weekend, so it probably won't be until the following week, but the next task will be to test IR opacity, and then to assemble the optics.

It would be very useful to have a schedule of the specific metal parts (unless I've missed it somewhere) - I can kind of figure them out from the pictures and instructions, but I'm guessing at some of the lengths needed for the hex bolts etc.

I wonder if any of these more "specialty" florescent bulbs (made for special UV requirement for raising desert reptiles) would be good for the UVEX3?:

I did not know that this type of lamp existed. It's quite extraordinary!!!

I have the impression that the glass of the lamp is quartz and thus lets pass the UV. This might be ideal for UVEX ...
Someone needs to buy and verify that the mercury UV lines are present (+ fluorescent band)

But be CAREFUL, these lamps are surely dangerous for human eyes. We must not look at them directly.

Yes I thought the UVEX3 team might benefit from this relatively "cheap" UV source.
I opted to purchase the Exo Terra Repti-Glo 10.0 Compact Fluorescent Desert Terrarium Lamp, 13-Watt ($10 USD) and
the Zoo Med 25156 Reptisun 5.0 Uvb Compact 13W Fluorescent Lamp, Mini ($12 USD). Here are their respective links:

Hi all
I am thinking about making one of these spectrographs. I have made a LOSPEC that works very well. I have a LISA so don't really need another low res spectrograph but I think the idea is fun anyway and it would probably compliment the LISA in the blue end of the spectrum.
What is holding me back is the guide module. It is very expensive to buy a Alpy guide module. Christian's page mentions a 3D printed option. Has this been designed yet?

Sunday at the OHP Stephane UBAUD who made the first prototype will be present and will be able to present it to you.
A UVEX spectrograph (3) with this module will be available for testing.
