ISIS configuration

Post by Ulisse Quadri »

AppData \ Local \ rlhires

Isis can be tricky. I'm only on V5.9.3, but will migrate to V6 when my eShel2 is complete.
What I find helpful it to make a small notepad file with all the various configs and locations I
use for my LhiresIII, Alpy600, & LISA-IR observations, like this:

My folder/directory naming conventions are like this(examples with real spectro data):

__Home01July20(-5)CDK17-LhiresIII2400Grat-35micronSLIT
__MtPinos21Jun20(-12)CC13-Alpy600Atik414-23micronGLASSslit
__Home28Mar20(-5)CDK17-LISAAtik460_23micronGLASSslit

within each of these folders/directories I make these subfolders:

ALL Processed Spectra_BeSS Check
calib

Calib of course if where Isis like to see the dark and offset files. I use the "ALL Processed Spectra_BeSS Check" after I take the Isis processed spectrum into the BASSProject program
and do a quality check and tweak the BeSS profile .fits parameters of object, acquisition details, and any comments needed and save this the the "ALL Processed Spectra_BeSS Check"
subdirectory.

FLAT and OBJECT rename Preparation:
As a step before I process spectra in the Image tab of Isis, I copy all the flats of the spectra from their main directory (say "__Home01July20(-5)CDK17-LhiresIII2400Grat-35micronSLIT")
to the calib subdirectory. I have Isis (in the Settings tab) point to the directory (__Home01July20(-5)CDK17-LhiresIII2400Grat-35micronSLIT\calib) and simultaneously open the "Bulk Rename Utility"
or BRU (see: https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/) and also point to the __Home01July20(-5)CDK17-LhiresIII2400Grat-35micronSLIT\calib folder and have (1 by 1) BRU rename flat to the Isis
naming convention f1,f2,f3,f4,f5,f6,f7. I go back to Isis "Masters" tab and RUN result "flat" along with the previously named Dark Image(*dark2400-5") and Offset Image("offset2x2-5") already populated.
Once Isis produces "flat" I rename this (e.g. flat-GP VirHa) with its object name as a suffix. Before going to next (BRU rename and make flat) you have to erase the f1,f2,f3,f4,f5,f6,f7 files.
Once these are all done, I copy them to the main directory (__Home01July20(-5)CDK17-LhiresIII2400Grat-35micronSLIT) and point BRU to this directory and rename my Maxim generated name to
Isis "friendly" names; e.g. GP VirHa-001 becomes GP VirHa-1 and GP VirHa_neon-001 becomes GP VirHa_neon-1.

Its sounds complicated, but using these three programs (and a windows folder open to the directory your working on) it can get fast. Good luck.....I will definitely need help from more wise
spectro-processors when I process eShel2 specta in a few months :/
