SU Lyn Call for observations by Katarzyna Drozd
H alpha evolution
Note that Katarzyna Drozd (Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center, Warsaw, Poland) is very interested by this new discovered symbiotic
So, more data are required (low an high res)
Say, at least one spectrum a month (SU Lyn isn'st a very active symbiotic star, looks like EG And, ZZ CMi, with essentially variations due to orbital motion)
Photometry BVR should also be welcome
All the best
François
PS : don't forget the other main targets.
This is the continuous observations, at the highest cadency as possible, on the long term which are the keys of the insterest of the database

Hello,
Ok, I will try to take a low resolution (R=800) and a medium resolution (R=6000) spectrum every month. For the moment, here is one taken five days ago.
Salut!
Fran

Here's a spectrum taken last night with eShel Spectrograph R=11000
The full spectrum (23 orders merged)
Order 34 (H Alpha line)

Amazing spectrum, Olivier. With that resolution and the echelle, I wonder if observations made with low resolution spectrographs have an interest...
Talking about photometry of this star, I think it is very important to choose an adequate comparison star. Unfortunately, the AAVSO sequence lacks of suitable stars for CCD near SU Lyn and, in fact, this star is very poorly covered with photometry. Does Katarzyna Drozd suggest any comparison star? If not, I could suggest one and a pair of check stars...
Greetings
Fran

Of course yes, low resolution spectrum is important for 3 reasons :
- You can do a spectrum with less exposure time than for an echelle spectrum (i have to use more than 3 hours to have a correct SNR...)
- You have a more accurate continuum with a low resolution spectrum because with echelle spectrum, to have the full spectrum, we have to merged all order.
- You can go deeper in the blue (with echelle, it's difficult to have a good SNR in the blue du to the magnitude of this star)

Hi Francisco,
I do agree with Olivier's answer
Spectra at R ~ 1000 are very interesting since they are well corrected for atmo/inst response.
Flux calibration is a must
But I think that the best answer is :
https://arxiv.org/abs/1607.06804
We are grateful to all of the amateur astronomers that
contributed their observations to this paper. In particular,
we are thankful to members of the ARAS group for their
wonderful work.
See Table A1
or
https://arxiv.org/abs/1606.07397
We also thank
Fran¸cois Teyssier for altering us to the many amateur spectroscopic
observations which have been made and we acknowledge
and thank Fran¸cois Teyssier, Umberto Sollecchia,
Joan Guarro Flo, Jacques Montier, Peter Somogyi,
Keith Graham and V Bouttard for use of their spectra
Two other papers are currently submitted for publication, using high *and* low res spectra from ARAS database
High quality spectra / long term and high freqency observation are the keys of the fame of the base amoung professionnals
All the best,
François
