Re: New transcient, perhaps a nova
Was able to get spectra the last two nights (29th and 30th) with my new echelle. Halpha still dropping.
But not much change at Hbeta.

Re: New transcient, perhaps a nova
Great observations Joan, Umberto!
Huge variations again in the yesterday spectrum (July 30). A lot of absorption lines are emphasised. While for the H-beta line there has been a slight change, Fe II lines (but also many other lines) have greatly increased the velocity (blueshifted P-Cyg absorption and broaded emission component).
Measurements are difficult due to the presence of so many absoption lines that, I think, distort the P-Cygni profiles.
The 2d spectrum comparison:
Average V magnitude for yesterday: 8.67 (July 30 ~21 UT).

Re: New transcient, perhaps a nova
Congratulations for the excellent monitoring
It seems that the nova has reached its maximum
The database is updated
Please, check and say me
All the best,

Re: New transcient, perhaps a nova
I've not had much chance to take spectra due to rain, but finally managed some spectrophotometry of the now changing and brightening ASASSN-17hx last night. A comparison with my last spectrum of 7th July is also attached.

Re: New transcient, perhaps a nova
Hi all, my last observations with Lhires III and 1200 l/mm grating.
July 31, H-alpha region, tellurics removed:
Aug 1, H-beta and Fe II (42):
In the last few days, metal lines increased a lot the P-Cyg RV (not the
Balmer lines). Many P-Cyg profile absorptions are now double (two minima).

Hi,
The H alpha of NOVA Sct 2017, is ascending again, I hope that does it hard.. The minimun, ( at de moment ), is registereg by Tim Lester, on the night 2017 07 30.
Congratulations to all, Umberto, si sta facendo un grande lavoro.
Joan.
