ASAS-SN request AT2017iro

Post by Robin Leadbeater »

Subo Dong for the ASAS-SN team need a classification for this probable supernova in NGC 5480. It was discovered 2 days ago at mag 15.5 so is not an easy target, particularly with the full moon but it could brighten to ~mag 13 if it is a type 1a. I was clouded out at the critical time this morning and the forecast is not good for me so would anyone else like to try?

Hi Robin,

Weather is not good here in south east of France, many snow so no possibility for me to take some spectra of this target...

Good job Etienne.
You were really very lucky with the weather because at home it's snowing without any interruption...

Salut Olivier,

I did not expect to see anything with the full moon. You deserve a special award for perseverance Etienne ! I have alerted Subo Dong

Cheers

Etienne,

Can you post the fits file and I will try it in SNID

Robin

EDIT: It is ok, I can pick it up from TNS. I wonder why TNS did not plot the spectrum ?

Etienne,

SNID also suggests type Ib based on your spectrum for example

I think TNS did not plot your spectrum because it expects the spectrum as a .dat file in the ASCII file (not the ISIS log file you uploaded)
