Nova in Canis Major - N CMa 2018 = TCP J07134590-2112330
Atel #11475 and AAVSO Alert Notice 627

RA = 07h13m45.843s , Dec = -21d12'31.28

Early this morning the clouds cleared and I was able to collect data on this Nova.

I took 8 300sec exposures of the target and used the Reference star HD031295 for determining the response correction. Putting the target on the slit without getting the nearby Mag 13.1 on the slit was tricky/lucky.

The P Cygni profiles are still very prominent on the Balmer lines. I calculate the Halpha absorption component velocity at about -1,800 km/sec.

Hello Joan,

Thank you even though I am not James:)

The AAVSO Alert Notice #627 reported a CCD magnitude of 12. I did not do photometry on it but it was much brighter than the magnitude 13.1 star very close to this target. A quick search of the AAVSO database shows a Vmag of 11.4 a few hours ago.

Also François T. just observed that I have hot or warm pixels at 6136 and 6604.

Hallo Forrest and all,

Last night I intended observe the Nova CMi 2018 with both echelle spectrographs. I showing the best results with the MUSSOL, ( Piera Observatory ).The results with the LINX are worse. The magnitude of the Nova was around 11 th.

Joan: your spectruOIm is welcome for the base
Woody: the identification of the lines is good
But [OI] is hasty
The ejecta is still thick
[OI] lines appear at about 2 mag under maximum luminosity when the ejecta turns thin

Thank you Joan and François.

I only added the annotation for [OI] to show that even though it was listed in the Atel #11475, that it was not visible in my data. I should have been more clear:)
Here is more data from last night. This time I took (5) 600sec exposures. I used HD059612 as the Reference star. There are large changes in the intensities of the absorption and emission lines.

Yes me too, no observation last night, and I could just take the field of the nova on the autoguiding sensor and that seems to be finally pretty bright ... But very low at my home horizon. (20 degrees above the horizon)
