Of course, more spectra are welcome. This one could be fast.

Thanks Francois, everyone !

The continuum in the spectrum posted in the ATel is much flatter than mine, though the features are identical. It was quite low at the time (~30deg), though the reference star was at a similar altitude so the extinction correction should have been roughly ok. It will be interesting to see followup spectra.

The comparison with sn2017eaw is interesting. I thought the width of the lines was greater than I had seen before for novae and even ran the spectrum though GELATO just in case, though without a decent match. Is the brightness increase (~11 magnitudes) and velocity ~2600km/s higher than typical for a nova?

V329 Per is a known dwarf nova. Are there any other examples of a dwarf nova undergoing a classical nova-like outburst ?

Cheers
Robin

Hello Robin,
Many thanks for sharing your observations. Fascinating to see such even almost in real time ! Impressive change compared to yesterday... The dynamic is much faster than the SN2017eaw example I was using to facilitate line identification. Hope I will have better weather condition tonight to try a contribution.
Cheers,
Daniel

Thank you Robin for sharing
This a a fast nova with fasr decline and evolution of the broad emission lines
Fast novae with broad lines derive from *massive* white dwarf in binary systems: the thermonuclear runaway is stronger and only a little part of the accreting layer is ejected at high speed (> 2000 km/s)
Of course, nothing to do with a supernova event.

For lines idendification (difficult in broad lines nova because of the blends)
http://www.astronomie-amateur.fr/Docume ... _Novae.pdf
I think that the best method for lines identification (and to avoid gross error) is comparing spectra with publications

I see from the AAVSO alert
https://www.aavso.org/aavso-alert-notice-633
that there is a published spectrum taken a few hours before my first one
https://www.nayoro-obs.jp/pirka/nacs/V3 ... 180429.png
There were already big changes between this spectrum and mine.

A bientôt,
Daniel
