Comète C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) hauteur 18° !

Post by Dubreuil Pierre »

Good evening everyone

Last night I opened my new observatory and make my first spectra (changes life!)

I realized a first spectrum for Bess basis of BD + 59 2829 star.
Then the comet C / 2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) very low on the horizon (18 ° maximum), but bright enough to guide the core. Alpy600 and C8

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all

Congratulations Pierre! For the time being I cannot observe this beautiful comet due to obstacles above horizon but Umberto was able to take a spectrum on 29 december from L'Aquila, Italy. He would write here but he is waiting the account activation by an ARAS forum administrator. So I write for him.

C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) spectrum (false nucleus zone).

Sun light was observed with the same setup some days ago. Then he try to divide the observed comet spectrum for sun spectrum.

A colorful version (a little bit saturated) using the nice-looking gnuplot tool by Serge Golovanow (thank you Serge!). I add some labels on molecular emissions.

Happy new year to everyone!

Hello all,

Here is my contribution to C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy spectra on 2014/12/30 (19° altitude).
Atmospheric conditions were rather tricky with thick fog banks and a bright Moon high in the sky.
After 3x600s exposures, i couldn't see the target anymore !
Sky background is not removed as i couldn't see anything in the sky apart the fog !!!
As Alpy600 was on the Meade 355mm ACF F/D 10 and guiding on the comet, my friend Pascal took 12x120s exposures with a Canon 40D on a 80mm refractor telescope WO 81 F/D 5.9.

Impossible to detect the tail of Lovejoy because of the fog !

Cordialement
Pierre
Hello everyone

The passage in 2015 with a first spectrum of the comet.
I chose a star of the same height (28 °) for the answer and qualibration in blue neon and more.

Paolo thank you for your remarks and your colleague who realized the spectrum.
Jacques, congratulations for your spectrum confirms ours.

We will be able to follow quietly to see what will move!

Best wishes to all in 2015 and many new spectra with new upcoming items!

ello everyone:

Leave a graphical comparison of the comet last two nights.

The second, only to notice the widening of CN 3880 and 4056 C3.

Question worth pursuing observed the comet? Or observations have only anecdotal value?

We have things you say, Friendly, Joan.

Cordialement

Good evening everyone
Last night, I made a different spectrum of this comet. Comparing the spectrum 01/01 no change is observed, except perhaps an amplitude difference in blue.

The same question as Joan, should we expect a change in spectral lines?

I've taken 2 spectra of this comet. The first was on 14/12 14 when it was deep in the south. The second was on 3/1/15 when it is at the zenith for me in the late evening. As it is moving north it will become easier for you northerners. :D
It hasn't really changed much in the 3 weeks.

There is a pro/am facebook group devoted to this comet. There are a few spectra on it as well as lots of other pics and measurements.

Not sure what can be seen though if you are not a member.
