HD 127617

Post by Keith Graham »

Hi,

I am having an issue with my spectra of HD127617 three spectra taken in 2015, 2016, and 2017. I tried to attach these specs but did nto have any luck.

The spectrum taken in 2015 is very similar to other specs on the Be database in that the Ha line is emission. However the two taken in 2016 and 2017 are quite different from this one and all other specs on the Be DB. In the 2017 spec the Ha is an absorption line and there are H & K calcium lines not seen in the 2015 spec. In addition, all of the specs of this target in the Be database do not show the Ca lines and all of them show Ha as an emission line. Interestingly both the 2015 and 2016 specs were accepted into the Bess database. I hesitate to submit the 2017 spec since it is so different from the other submitted low res specs.

I took specs of this star two nights in a row (May 31and June 1 2017) and got the same results for both nights. It appears to me I most likely have the wrong star. But my scope’s GOTO accuracy is quite good in that the target is always in the FOV and not more than 25% of the fov away from the slit. No other stars are in this fov. Other targets to which I slew obtain specs are always spot on. So I am now at a loss to explain why my specs are not consistent with others on the Be DB.. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might wrong here?

Thanks,

Keith

Hi Keith, I downloaded your 2016-06-02 spectrum from BeSS. It actual seems that of a less hot than an A3 star. Note the similarity with the Pickles F3V.

About 4' north of the Be star there is the star HD127667 (from Simbad mag V 7.84, type F8) which could be mistaken. But it would be odd if your mount aim accurately.

When possibile I also observe that star.

All the best,
Paolo

Hi Paolo,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I do know about HD127667 being in the vicinity. For grins, I might just try taking a spec of that to see if I mistakenly taking that instead of HD 127617. And thank you also for the comparison with the Prickles F2V star. That is convincing evidence that I have the wrong target. Once I have this figured out, I will need to remove that spec from the Be DB. I obviously did take the correct star in 2015, so I am confused as to why I am having a problem getting it again.

Cheers,

Keith

Hi Keith, it seems that HD 127617 exhibits now the h-alpha line in emission state. I've managed to observe it in a brief moment of clear sky (many clouds tonight...). Can you confirm?
