V1972 Cygnus - High Altitude Spectra - 22Jun17

Post by James Foster »

Here is a spectrum of the B[e} object V1972 Cygnus shot from Mt. Pinos, CA at 2500 meters elevation:
Image
This was IR calibrated against the nearby star A0III star HD181470. Numerous Fe II lines show and the H-Alpha line is intense at about 1.8X the average of the continuum along the y-axis.

Just for visualizing the area I do spectroscopy from, here is the set-up I use at Mt. Pinos, CA USA (8,300 feet/2500 meter elevation):
Image
The C-11 on the left does photometry all night using CCDAutopilot, The 13" aperture white classical cassegrain in the center of the image is used with the LISA spectroscope.
The CDK17 at the far right is used for "pretty picture" imagery at Pinos and spectroscopy at home. The white cables on the ground go to three separate laptops in the RV which controls each mount using Sky 6, Robofocus for focus (PWI3 for the CDK17), and Maxim V5.23 for CCD control.

Hi James, your astronomical station is amazing! I visited Mt. Pinos and Frazier Park in 1988 with a camper. Four people and two telescopes installed exactly there (observing and imaging with film). I miss that place!

Very nice the V1972 Cyg spectrum. Try to go deeper under that sky, I think even now it has very little light pollution.
