Modelling Balmer line wings in symbiotic stars

Post by David Boyd »

This recent preprint may be of interest to high resolution spectroscopists observing the Balmer lines of symbiotic stars

Thank you for the input, David
There's two theories for the formation of broad pedestrials in symbiotics lines:
- scattering (your reference)
- fast wind (+++ 100 km/s) from the hot component
From observationnal results, it is impossible to decide between the two
