Total Lunar Eclipse 26th May 2021

Post by Stu Todd »

We were graced with a beautiful lunar eclipse this week and I took the opportunity to record the filtering effect of the atmosphere on the solar spectrum.
I used the LhiresIII with the 150l/mm grating on a C11, 314L+ was the imaging camera.
I include a pre-eclipse ;) , and a mid-totality image too, for comparison.

It was fantastic to watch the blue end vanishing as the eclipse progressed, as the continuum was eaten away by the C3 Chappuis absorption. Fantastic evening, and amazingly cloud-free! :)
