Another Nova in Sagittarius

Post by Terry Bohlsen »

Dear All.
Another nova candidate has been announced on CBAT in Sagittarius called PNV J18193700-1907400
It is only about V =12.7 so quite dim.
I took 30 minutes of spectra of it before I got clouded out. It shows Ha emission but not much else. Enough to confirm that it is a nova though.

Good job Terry !
At V=12.7 the object become seriously faint.

Very good. I wasn't going to bother taking anymore but if it is still rising it might be worth it if I ever get a clear night again. :(

At the same moment as François Teyssier acquisition, the observation of nova
from Toulouse (south of France) (C11 + LISA 23 microns slit + Atik314L+).

The field from the LISA guiding camera (Atik314L+ camera) - 20 sec. exposure :

The spectrum (12x 300 sec exposure):

Un nouveau spectre (23.8 juillet). La nova monte d'éclat
et l'intensité relative de Halpha diminue. On note aussi l'apparition
d'un profil P-Cyg sur l'hydrogène entre-autre :

I took further spectra of this nova on 25th and 29th July. I also took photometry of it on 29th giving a V mag of 11.0 and R = 10.39.
More into here
http://users.northnet.com.au/~bohlsen/N ... tarius.htm

There was a very rapid increase in the intensity of the Ha line over the 4 days.
