Symbiotic star R Aqr

Post by Francois Teyssier »

The symbiotic star R Aqr is near it's luminosisty minimum (mag )
It's spectrum is very peculiar : typical nebular lines above the absorption spectrum of a red giant.
R Aqr is one the scarce D type symbiotics luminous enough for amateur spectroscopy :the red giant is Mira type star.
It's supposed to have been a nova observed by eastern astronoms at the begining of the second millenary.

As the luminosity will increase, the emission lines will weaken
