ASASSN-19aad, possible nova

Post by Francisco Campos »

Hello,

I have received an alert about ASASSN-19aad as a possible reddened nova. Here is a spectrum taken "in extremis" before the star went out of vision, Very strange, this spectrum.
Star was about mag. 9 yesterday, the day of discovery.

if it clears here (cloudy now) this evening (New Zealand time) I plan to attempt to get spectra with both SA100 ( grating plus prism in converging beam) and LR200 with 600lpmm grating.

Title: Spectroscopic Classification of AT 2019tpb/ASASSN-19aad as
a Galactic Nova

We obtained a spectrum of the transient AT 2019tpb/ASASSN-19aad (TCP J18395972-1025415;
see also <a href="http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/unconf/ ... html">CBAT
TOCP</a>) with the FRODOSpec spectrograph (resolution R ~ 5400; <a href="https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2012A ... ">Barnsley
et al. 2012</a>) on the 2-m Liverpool Telescope (LT; <a href="http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2004SPIE. ... 9S">Steele
et al. 2004</a>) on 2019 Oct 29.81 UT.

The spectrum shows Balmer lines, which exhibit P-Cygni profiles. We measure
the maximum velocity of the Hα absorption component to be ~1500 km/s.
We also find lines from He I (6678, 7065Å) and O I (7773Å)
at the red end of the spectrum, which also all show P-Cygni profiles. There
are numerous lines blueward of Hβ, mainly absorption lines, although
some may have weak emission components. Our spectrum of AT 2019tpb also
shows absorption lines originating from N II and C II.

This spectrum shows that AT 2019tpb/ASASSN-19aad is a Galactic nova in
the early stages of eruption.

Hallo everybody,
here my last spectrum of ASASSN-19aad taken yesterday evening.
The profile evolved over the days showing a very broad and pronounced H Alpha emission line. In my low resolution spectrum we can see also weak emission lines as FeII (5018.4 A, 5169 A, 6248 A, 6456 A) and maybe a CII line at 7120A.
I hope the weather conditions will improve next week.
Finger crossed
