Posssible SN 2020epi

Post by etienne bertrand »

Bonjour,

Merci

Hi Etienne,

It is already on my list to try but if it is still mag 18 it will be very difficult even with the ALPY200. Has it got brighter at all? (If it is a type 1a it should reach ~mag 16)

Cheers

Thanks Robin,

I give your mail to Emmanuel Conseil, very nice friend passionate to SN and transit, for it take contact with you.

The SN is difficult, last day i try to see the galaxy in my C11 and i dont see it with binning 3x3 and 30/60s exposure...
But possible the magnitude down now ?

I managed to confirm and classify it (a type Ic) based on 2 spectra with the ALPY 200 on 26th and 30th March. It is still mag 18 so this is the faintest classification I have made :)
https://wis-tns.weizmann.ac.il/object/2020epi

Here is an example match to a type Ic. (The black profile is the average of the two spectra.)

and here is the raw spectrum image (The supernova signal is much fainter than the sky background, ISIS background subtraction and the optimised binning option worked very well)

Impressive exposure time, impressive magnitude and... impressive observation!
Congratulation Robin,
