Nova Del 2013

Post by Keith Graham »

Hi,

The NovaDel 2013 campaign has been an extraordinary learning experience for me. I have come to recognize many spectral lines in my low res spectra (i.e H and He), but there are others that I have yet to recognize. Richard Walker’s Spectroscopic Atlas and Francois Teyssier’s Low Resolution books have helped a lot. However, lately there has been mention of Fe & Cn lines, and I cannot seem to find data on these. Could someone point me to a source that illustrates the positions of these lines and that shows their respective wavelengths? Also, what other lines can we expect to see as the nova progresses? I would like to know the positions of these lines as well so I can recognize them as they appear.

Thanks,

Keith Graham

The general scheme of nova evolution is discribed on :http://www.astronomie-amateur.fr/Projet ... Novae.html From spectra of Tololo Survey (the basis of Williams classification between Fe II and He/N nova) - The 3 publications of Williams between 1991 and 1994 give a lot of examples of spectroscopic developpement

A list of lines for He II, He/N and nebular phase :http://www.astronomie-amateur.fr/Docume ... _Novae.pdf

hi,
your links (I thank you for them) have not removed my doubts about the identification of 8500 lines in infrared. Is it CaII or H I? We, Section of Spectroscopy members of Unione Astrofili Napoletani, guests of Osservatorio Astronomico di Capodimonte in Napoli, have shot the Nova Del 2013 on 3 september and a discussion is opened among us and also a debate in Spectroring UAI (Unione Astrofili Italiani) Forum. I ask you for an opinion.
I seize opportunity and send you our spectrum.

Nice spectrum with a SA, Elio.
In fact the highest line in that region is OI 8446 - Near 8500, there's Ca II 8498, but too faint for a SA.
These lines are in Williams' list
See tomorow morning in the report spectrum of Paolo

Bonjour à tous

Hier soir nuit sympa mais très humide sur Aspremont 06 Fr (le séchoir a bien chauffé ! ).
Yesterday night fun but very wet in Aspremont 06 Fr (the hairdryer was used a lot).

Quelques cibles Be et Nova Del 2013 qui reste encore bien active.
Some targets Be and Nova Del 2013 which is still very active.

Beau spectre d'une nova qui commence à devenir difficile à mag ~ 12,7
A poursuivre aussi loin que nous pourrons
Plus d'un an maintenant !
