This new nova is currently around 4.1mag, an easy object for southern observers......
This is an urgent request for spectra...
If you have the capability and weather!! Now is the time to gather data.......

The weather is poor here at the moment. Also it doesn't rise above my trees til 2:30am so is difficult for me. I'm on holidays from tomorrow til 27th dec so won't be able to get anything til then. After that I will contribute and should be able to follow it for over 6 months as it fades. Til then though someone else will have to try.

We've been lucky enough to have a couple of clear morning to image the nova.
Yesterday it was showing P Cygni profiles - clearly visible in the Ha, today they seem to have diminished dramatically.
Only lo-res spectra from the Baader 207 l/mm grating on the 4" f5 Genesis - 12A/ pixel, 30s exposures.

Spectrum of V 1369 Cen taken on December 5, 2013 (07:30 UT) by Rogerio Marcon and Tasso Napoleao. Exposure 600s. Observing site: Campinas, SP, Brazil (22.792271 S, 47.070032 W, height 597m). Spectroscope R=11 000 (grating 2400 l/mm), Newtonian scope 315mm, Audine camera (KAF 1602); all equipment built by R. Marcon. Pre-treatment and reduction made with Maxim DL and VSpec 4.1.2.

P-Cygni profile in the H-Alpha line very prominent in this date. Expansion speed estimated as close to 900 km/s.

Spectroscope R=11 000 (grating 2400 l/mm), Newtonian scope 315mm, Audine camera (KAF 1602), all equipment built by R. Marcon. Pre-treatment and reduction made with Maxim DL and VSpec 4.1.2.

The emission in H-Alpha has increased significantly as compared to our December 5 spectrum. On the other hand, the P-Cygni profile in absorption has weakened. This scenario appears to be very similar to the one observed in Nova Del 2013 a few days after the explosion.

The emission in H-Alpha has further strengthened as compared to the December 5 and 09 spectra. From our measures, we have estimated a development in the EW of the line from about -17 by Dec 05 to -135 by Dec 12, with room for further growth over the next few days. Will keep an eye on it.

The evolution is well shown

How many exposures du you stack ? Perhap's the SNR could be improved.

Lo-res grating spectra show a dramatic increase in the Ha emission line....
Ongoing observations has been hampered by very poor weather in the Eastern States...

Bonjour, François,

Those are guided single exposures, 600s each (not stacked). In the first round of images (Dec 05) we tried to combine two 600-sec images to check the effect on SNR, but we noticed that the improvement was quite small...but anyway, we will be glad to hear your recommendations.

You are right, Ken. V 1369 Cen apparently reached a second peak by Dec 14 (around 07:30 UT), with visual magnitude around 3.3 - 3.4, according to AAVSO data from about 40 observers worldwide. Since then it has been fading again. I could estimate V=4.6 today (Dec 16.21389 UT) just before dawn here.
