Possible nova in Oph PNV J17144255-2943481

Post by Jon »

Here's the CBAT page http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/unconf/ ... 43481.html - this nova was discovered a couple of days ago.

I got a low-res SA100 spectrum last night. Strong blue continuum. Odd sort of line profile - weak Ha emission line, no sign of Hb, but a stronger He/N(?) emission line around 4680. Possibly a He/N type nova close to maximum?

Hello Jon,
He II and NII should appear later, about 3 mag under maximum (only low ionization lines near maximum)
Also OI identification is uncertain

The spectrum could be that of a dwarf nova outburst in a WZ Sge cataclysmic

A spectrum taken the April 14.11 UT with a Celestron 11 and a Alpy 600 spectrograph (4 x 300 sec exposure at R=630):
