Near-IR spectra...

Post by Christian Buil »

A spectra collection taken in infrared CCD range by using a special version of LISA spectrograph (a setup from Shelyak). Small 200 mm f/5 Newton telescope.

The symbiotic star V694 Mon (note Ca II line in emission):

Christian,

Excellent results!

For those with LISA spectrograph (ok, a little advertisement... sorry!), you can easily convert the LISA into a near Infra-Red LISA with our kit:
http://www.shelyak.com/produit.php?id_p ... =12&lang=2

The change is reversible and a near infra-red LISA can be converted back to a visible LISA.

A new spectral domain to study! :-)

OK Olvier, but what is the difference between the set up used and the IR kit? It is not fair on potential customers not to make this clear at least at the results level - spectral range, resolution?

Andrew,

Visible LISA has a spectral range 400-700nm while the LISA near Infra-Red has a spectral range 650nm-1µm.

The near infra-red kit is actually made of:
-a grating optimized for near infra-red (the visible one is blazed at 500nm)
-a filter to remove the second order
-a mechanical part to tilt the camera at a proper angle

Switching from Visible to near Infra-Red (and reverse) is easy but require to be cautious and to completely open the LISA spectroscope; it should be done if possible during daylight and on a clean bench... in summary, it's easy but require time & caution.
