Bad pixel removal

Post by Andrew Smith »

I would like to know if bad pixel removal (say via using the bad pixel mapping in MaxIm DL) is acceptable in processing spectra. Also, if it is acceptable when in the reduction process should it be done?

Thanks Andrew

Hi Andrew,

It is essential to eliminate hot spots. If this is not it, it will appear false emission lines.
In MaximDL, you realize that in "Calibration" for each image. (Process> Calibrate All) before adding the images.

In ISIS, you must first create a file in the "Master Images" tab and then refer to the file name given in the "General" tab :
CosmeticFile.PNG
CosmeticFile.PNG (7.92 KiB) Viewed 3581 times
Cosmetic.PNG
Cosmetic.PNG (3.89 KiB) Viewed 3581 times
