Re: New transcient, perhaps a nova
Last spectrum of this nova taken last night with a poor sky at the horizon.
The magnitude still remain at the same level and no more evolution on the velocity, but the small "bump" in the absorption line grows every day.

Bien cordialement,
Fran

The nova has brightened significantly. Here is my result for July 26 with my new echelle.

Re: New transcient, perhaps a nova
Hi all! Fran, thanks for your comment. Very nice echelle spectrum Tim! I can confirm the extremely high brightness of the nova. Yesterday I measured V mag 9.15 at ~ 21 UT. Even with 1200 l/mm grating, the continuum is very intense and shows clearly the telluric lines in the H-alpha region (removed in the plots below).
Absolute flux calibration is obtained by rescaling the continuum to a low-res fluxed spectrum taken by Umberto (Alpy 600) at the same time.
H-alpha P-cyg profile changed again. The double absorption minimum seems gone. The heliocentric velocity of minimum is ~ -305 Km/s. The same measurement for Si II doublet return ~ -220 Km/s. Fe II 6456 Rv is ~ -235 Km/s.
Prof. Taichi Kato (who is looking at ARAS spectra, ref. VSNET ml), talks about a similarity of ASASSN-17hx evolution with the old nova V723 Cas.

Very interesting all the spectra.
Here is a comparison of two spectra, from July 22th and yesterday. The brightening began 3-4 days ago and the changes are dramatic!
Greetings
Fran
