Here is my LhiresIII shot of RS Oph on 15Aug21:

The H-Alpha spike seems to be getting shorter with the "fan" below getting wider.

finally joining the party after some equipment drownings last week. 10 minutes at low altitude (21 degrees) with 175mm newtonian at f7, and an L200 littrow, 180lpmm grating.

No sign of pi cyg profiles any more in my spectrum.

Is anyone managing a central location for uploading fits files of spectra of this object?

I see Christian is pushing the limits with star'ex, amazing work!

The ARAS, BAA and AAVSO databases are all accepting spectra of RS Oph
In ARAS you can find it under the Symbiotics here

Hello Hamisch

You can not detect Ca V or Fe VI at this state.
High ionized lines will appear later when the envelop (and photo-sphere) will recede sufficiently and their temperature increase to about ~100 kK and more.
At the current state, the temperature is about 30 kK ([OIII] for example is raising).

I thought that those IV and V lines were likely not the correct ones, but couldn't see other likely ones in the short list which I had on hand. what do you think they are likely to be?

Not so easy to follow the RS Oph outburst with the parade of clouds the last few days !!

Here is a comparison between my three last spectra the Halpha line of RS Oph at high resolution on August 12 at 21 h 24 TU (resolution of 16932, JJ = 2459439.3915, acquisition time of 70 min (7 x 600s)), on August 19 at 22 h 19 TU (resolution of 18039, JJ = 2459446.4296, acquisition time of 10 min (1 x 600s)) and on August 20 at 21 h 12 TU (resolution of 18575, JJ = 2459447.3835, acquisition time of 50 min (5 x 600s)) obtained with my LHIRES III (grating of 2400 lines / mm) and the previous one, on August 11.
What a dramatic change in the profile of the Halpha line in a few days !!
