LX200 14" Alta-zimut

Bonjour,

Pensez vous que je puisse prendre des spectres de la galaxie M31 avec un télescope LX200 14" monture Alta-zimuthale ?

La focale est de 3550 et M31 est tellement grande que je pense que la rotation de champ n'aura pas conséquence sur le spectre. toute la fente sera sur le cœur de la galaxie. Ce n'est pas comme si je voulais faire un spectre d'une cible ponctuelle.
Qu'en pensez-vous ?
(la pose sera de 600 secondes pour avoir un maximal de signal).

Hi Etienne, I think you most certainly can. Pay attention to the background subtraction, you have all the slit length occupied by the galaxy nucleus light. You should take another spectrum image of equal exposure time pointing the telescope toward the sky background (no galaxy or stars in the slit), then subtract it from the 2d spectrum of M31.

Altazimuth mounts are fantastic for star spectroscopy. Differential refraction occurs in a direction perpendicular to the horizon so, if you have the slit axis vertical-oriented, you are always in the best observing condition avoiding tedious problems (see: http://www.astrosurf.com/buil/dispersion/atmo.htm).
