variations in high resolution spectrum fringes

Post by Robin Leadbeater »

Hello all,

Like many people, I get sometimes get problems with fringes in my high resolution LHIRES spectra. I have now found something very strange. The strength of the fringes varies greatly with the vertical position of the binning area within the spectrum. See the attached profiles which are bins from the top and bottom half of the spectrum. I see the same effect from both the 16IC-S and 314L+ cameras.

What is going on? :o

Hi Robin,

Can you send to me your unslanted and untilted 2D spectrum + the exact processed
spectrum 2D (after possible geometric correction) for a diagnostic
(or post for download at a URL).
