Spectrum last night (3 July) very similar to the night before except H-alpha stronger. The star is also slightly brighter V=10.76 compared to V=10.92 on 2 July.

Bonjour à tous, placé le profil de la nova observé hier soir 04-07-2018 et une comparaison avec le jour précédent qui montre la variation de l'absorption du second P-cyg.

Hi all, the spectrum of 4 July, too. Lhires III and 1200 l/mm grating.

Image

H-alpha emission component raised even more with respect to continuum. Several P-Cyg profiles seems that are forming (Fe II 6417/6456, Si II 6347/6371) at similar velocities (~ -700 Km/s).

H-alpha P-Cyg profile evolved in a more delineated absorption line at about -1500 Km/s. The -700 Km/s component is still present but less obvious. Follows a RV comparison from 1 to 4 July (telluric removed).

Image
Will shoot this every night while at Pinos (6-15Jul18) with LISA and maybe two nights with LhiresIII
Very good James, if the brigtness will not decrease I think you'll catch great spectra also with high resolving powers. Considers that the H-beta region is a bit lower and emission lines are very weak compared to H-alpha (see Lisa/Alpy 600 spectra). But you have a very large telescope!

I Paolo,
Great spectra !!!

The weather is bad here in south east of France.... And the magnitude of the Nova is not very bright, so, no more spectra for me at this time.

Some view a échelle spectrum of nova Sct 2018 taken last night (6.9/07/2018, 250-mm RC telescope, eShel, ASI1600MM camera):`

Thanks Olivier! We also have had bad weather for a long time until the end of June (I would say it was a miracle for the nova!).

Very nice echelle spectrum Christian! Difficult with so high resolution. The same night I observed the h-alpha region with Lhires III and 1200 l/mm grating.

Image

A few changes of h-alpha line except an overall intensity increase against continuum.

The radial velocity plot updated:

A low resolution spectrum, flux calibrated using an average transformed V mag = 10.934 (from photometry acquired at the same time).

Hi all, the last spectrum taken on 8 July.

Image

The complex P-cyg absorption of h-alpha line seems to be triple. Indeed, in the 8 July spectrum the -1500 Km/s feature is spread to higher velocities (as if a new adjacent line had developed).
