Info from R. Fidrich in FB Group:

K. Geary, Killann, Shercock, County Cavan, Ireland, reports an eruption of the recurrent nova RS Oph on Aug. 8.93 UT at visual magnitude 6.0.

Independent detection of the eruption was reported by A. Amorim, Florianopolis, Brazil, who provides his visual magnitude estimates: Aug. 8.91, 5.0 (10x50 binoculars); 8.95, 5.0 (naked eye).

Amorim posted a photo that he took on Aug. 8.916 with a Canon 1100D camera (+ 55-mm-f.l. lens) at URL http://www.geocities.ws/costeira1/img/2 ... 2159ut.jpg.

Kirill Sokolovsky observed RS Oph at 4.77V on Aug. 09.12432UT.

The latest eruption of RS Oph occurred in Feb. 2006, when it reached visual mag 4.5.

A recent thesis (Alessandra Azzollini) about symbiotic recurrent nova (including RS Oph)
and more precisely the shocks produced by the ejecta on the high density nebula produced by the wind of the red giant.

BTW, Allessandra's thesis, uses number of spectra from ARAS database (T CrB, RS Oph, V3890 Sgr), see p. 109-110.
Thank you to all observers who are contributing, selflessly, often far from the sunlight's. Your observations are invaluable. This *is* Science.

All the best,
François

A a reference for the outburst, the last spectrum secured by Pavol a R = 1000
Unfortunatly, we have not enough observations for this season.

There are recent pre-outburst spectra including the IR by James Foster from the BAA database

Some Star Analyser spectra from the last outburst in 2006

I'm on this target now with my eShel spectrograph. The sky is not very good (lot of clouds)
A great P Cyg profil on each Balmer's lines...

Hi all,

I observed this object just now and here a first result for H-alpha detail, taken with C11 + LHiResIII and 2400 l/mm grating. There were, however, a few disturbing high clouds constantly present.

Dear All,
The first spectra secured by Olivier Thizy are uploaded in the database: https://aras-database.github.io/database/rsoph.html
This outburst is a fantastic event for amateur spectroscopy.
Hourly monitoring around the World is expected.

Nice ! It looks very similar to the early spectra from the 2006 outburst , here by Christian Buil
