I am trying to wavelength calibrate a spectrum using "file mode" The xxx.lst file was generated from another spectrum using the "dispersion" tool and contains the polynomial constants
6294.203
0.0889662
-1.630411E-006
0.000000E+000
0.000000E+000
When I try to use this file to calibrate another spectrum, ISIS fails with the error "invalid polynom number in the file xxx.lst (valid values between 1 and 4) " but the polynomial order is not even included in the xxx.lst file.
Does anyone know what am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
Robin

Re: ISIS - "invalid polynom number in the file" error
Hi Robin,
in the Profile - Dispersion page there are 2 modes for storing dispersion.
- Save current line list
- Save polynom
Apparently you have chosen the second method
To use the calculated polynom you have to load the polynom on this page with "load a polynom". Then on the General tab you have to select "predefined dispersion equation".
The spectral file mode you tried to apply expects the order, dispersion and a line list, see here:
http://www.astrosurf.com/buil/isis/tuto ... ion_us.htm
In order not to mix up the two modes I name the polynom list xxx_pol.lst, the line list xxx_line.lst.
Hope this clarifies your problem.
Martin

Re: ISIS - "invalid polynom number in the file" error
Another quick related question Martin,
Saving the line list from the dispersion tab just saves the line wavelengths. Do you know if there is there a way of automatically generating the complete file used in "file mode" including the linear dispersion and order or do these have to be added to the file manually ?
Thanks
Robin
