(une partie de mon été astronomique c'est concentrée sur l'observation de la planète extrasolaire 51 Peg b, après une première détection en 1999. J''ai chercher à améliorer la précision et on commence à s'approcher de ce que font nombre de professionnels, sans aller tout de même rivaliser avec des HARPS, mais quant même... il y a du potentiel).

A two month run for detect presence of the famous extrasolar planet around 51 Peg.... The telescopes used are a C9 and a C11. The spectrograph is VHIRES-MO (R = 50000).

Reproduire une manip avec un télescope de 28cm et un spectro fait maison alors qu'il y a 19 ans il fallait un 193 cm et le spectro ELODIE...

10-20 m/s 3 sigma is very impressive ! The skill of the observer must be an important factor (Do you know if anyone has repeated the 2005 eShel observations?) What would you say is the main contributor to the error now? spectrograph stability? SNR ?

J'ai corrigé quelques dates dans la page, effectivement Mayor et Queloz c'était en 1995, presque 20 ans !

Robin, I am for the moment the only amateur observers of exoplanets (?) but this paper is for encourage change (I hope !).

The main limitation is actually the stabiltity of the spectrograph (influence of temperature is very critical). I pubish here in some days a demonstration...

Very very impressive. with special emphasis on the pivoting fans used to "jitter" the "modal noise"...
I got curious about this noise, about this solution, and about how much improvement such solution would bring...

But I also admire the presence of solar, lunar and diurnal shifts clearly visible in the data!
