Off topic I know but I thought this novel application (posted on the VdS forum) of a LHIRES mounted on a microscope might be of interest

Interesting, I did my PhD in Infrared and Raman spectroscopy. I was studying phonons (quantised vibrations in crystals) and had a triple grating monochromator that was the size of a small car and used a photo-multiplier as a detector. How things chance!
