Re: Temperature and calibration

Peter, it's really good to hear that aluminium version of UVEX performes very well! As Robin has pointed and Pierre hinted, there is almost no thermally STABLE spectrograph that is directly attached to the telescope. At least not in professional astronomy field. All those instruments experience larg...

Re: Incorrect DATE-OBS in ZWO ASIImg software ?

Hello Robin, actually FITS standard seems to be permissive, but very clear: https://fits.gsfc.nasa.gov/standard40/fits_standard40aa-le.pdf (The current FITS standard) - it shall refer to the start of exposure/observation unless it is not clearly stated differently in the comment field. My experience...

Peter, that is a very nice analysis!

Best wishes,

Re: LHires III shifts with long exposures - how to handle?

James, interstellar Ca H and K lines can be also used - if present (close to galaxy plane) and if not severely blended - as a fixed reference (but not necessarily absolute!). I'd add that there is actually plenty of interstellar lines in various regions of optical and near-UV spectra, though not all...

Re: LHires III shifts with long exposures - how to handle?

By practice, we use tellurics only for checking spectra, mostly in case of high SNR + smooth continuum (cooler stars have spikes everywhere, rendering it unuseable). They are too low by SNR for a general use, and dependent on sky quality. However, DIB and tellurics certainly useable at low resoluti...

Re: LHires III shifts with long exposures - how to handle?

Peter, thank you for nice list of possible options. I'd comment about them. If you are for superb quality radial velocity changes or work at the limit of the setup (in terms of wavelength scale accuracy), there are straightforward options: The most ordinary method would be bracketing your individual...

Can anyone advise tbe best software to do this automatically.

Re: eShel optim. + ASI6200MM CMOS camera

Hello, The image should be excellent at the center of the field. The question is important: can we remove this corrector on the CDK17 reflector? I found a description from PlaneWave website how to remove the lens group that sits inside the primary mirror hole. It is possible, but I don't know if it ...

Hello from Tõnis Eenmäe

Hello ARAS spectroscopy forum! I am Tõnis Eenmäe, a research fellow at Tartu Observatory in Estonia. I started to enjoy astronomy and optics at the end of primary school (in the end of 1980s), few years after diving into photography, when I received a simple East German plastic telescope kit. When p...
