A spectrum of this transient with the ALPY600 shows 1400km/s P Cygni Balmer lines and broad He I emission lines
the fits file can be downloaded from the BAA database

Confirmed as a Nova
https://www.astronomerstelegram.org/?read=14793
The description of the spectrum there matches mine taken a couple of hours earlier. It was ~mag 12 when I took my spectrum last night. There is also an objective prism spectrum by Mike Harlow showing the strong H alpha beta emission

Here is my LISA-IR spectra taken on 17 July 21...unfortunately, I only was able to get near-IR info on this interesting object. Last night with the Alpy600, sky clouded-up so I'll have to follow-up with a visual spectra tonight or tomm; Note all non-balmer lines are tentatively identified.

Hi James,
That nicely complements my ALPY spectra. Here are the two nights with most lines marked. Anyone know what the lines at ~4265 and ~7230 are ?
(fits files in the BAA database)
Cheers

Here is a spectrum taken with a LISA on July 17.901 in slightly hazy conditions. Concurrent photometry gave a V magnitude of 13.10 which was used to calibrate the spectrum in absolute flux. I think the lines Robin is asking about are C II which are seen in He/N novae.

Spectrum very similar to that of Nova Cassiopeiae 2021, with abundant Fe II lines and some of He I. JJ Pueyo

The evolution to an Fe II nova has now been confirmed
https://www.astronomerstelegram.org/?read=14816
The Fe II lines can be traced back in my spectra to as early as 20210721

Hi Robin,
Fe II (42) lines were starting to appear even earlier on 19th July.

Re: TCP J20210770+2914093 a nova in Vul
Hi David,
Yes I can see a single line appear at ~5170 in my 20210719 spectrum too but the other Fe II line groups only appear in my spectrum 20210721 and look to be absent in your spectrum too. Perhaps the SNR is not good enough to detect the other fainter Fe II lines on 19th.
Cheers
Robin
EDIT plot updated to include the earliest spectrum (There are already lines close to your positions marked as Fe II 4923/5018 back to 20210716)
