Hello all,

Christian, Peter, Olivier and Stéphane, happy to see your results and the evolution of the nova since my last spectrum !!
What a pleasure to see these pictures of the OHP ... look forward to next year with many more spectros !!
With a less favorable weather than at OHP, I think, I have, I obtained the following spectrum of the nova Cas 2020 the 24th of August at 22 h 51 TU with my Alpy 600 (resolution of 501, JJ = 2459086.4521) and an acquisition time of 85 min :

Nova Cas 2020 on August 5th, 6th, 7th, 15th and 17th and 24th, 2020 (identification of lines from PlotSpectra)
Nova Cas 2020 on August 5th, 6th, 7th, 15th and 17th and 24th, 2020 (identification of lines from PlotSpectra)
Like the Balmer lines, the FeII lines are increasingly visible !

Evolution of the Halpha line :
Halpha line on August 5th, 6th, 7th, 15th, 17th and 24th, 2020
Halpha line on August 5th, 6th, 7th, 15th, 17th and 24th, 2020
novacas2020_20200824_952_Christophe Boussin_Halpha.png (28.14 KiB) Viewed 5611 times
The relative intensity of the Halpha line is still increasing !

Evolution of the [OI] line :
[OI] line on August 5th, 6th, 7th, 15th, 17th and 24th, 2020
[OI] line on August 5th, 6th, 7th, 15th, 17th and 24th, 2020

But that of [OI] at 6300A seems to have changed little ...

Clear skies to all for the next steps of the evolution of the nova !

Hello all,

Here is my new update for the nova Cas 2020 with the following spectrum obtained last night the 25th of August at 23 h 58 TU with my Alpy 600 (resolution of 507, JJ = 2459087.4985) and an acquisition time of 60 min :

Nova Cas 2020 on August 5th, 6th, 7th, 15th, 17th, 24th and 25th, 2020 (identification of lines from PlotSpectra)
Evolution of the Halpha line :

No significant changes in 24 hours, except for the Halpha line whose relative intensity seems to increase slightly ...

Clear skies !

Simultaneous observation of nova Cas 2020 by using two very different setup, an unusual experience for me :

Image

At the first plane a Celestron 9.25 + UVEX spectrograph (industrial prototype version of UVEX from Shelyak Inst). At the second plane the Newton 250 and fiber eShel interface.

The control panels for UVEX(S), the nova is on the cross and the 23 microns slit :

Image

and for eShel, the nova is on the 50 microns hole :

Image

The eShel resolution is degraded to the UVEX spectrograph actual configuration (600 grooves/mm grating, blaze 750 nm), from R=12000 to R=2200 by successive gaussian filters and binning on ISIS, and the two spectra are merged :

Image

Image

The result is a peculiar amateur spectrum from 0.385 micron to 1 micron. The atmospheric H2O absorpion is severe at 9500 A.

Detail of the common wavelength region between the two part (eShel for the bleu, UVEX for near-IR). Note the excellent coherence (I use L_MERGE command for the fusion) :

A detail of near-IR :
