Hi Robin, it's a pity the progressive signal deterioration. With such a faint target it can certainly change the result.

The same data for my spectro session are below. I think the cause of some variations can be attributed to atmospheric turbulence. During the observation I happened to see the guide star image get bigger and blurry for some time (on average the seeing was good). My observatory is located close to buildings which emanate heat during the night.

Here's my contribution "recently" (before I got started testing another spectroscope) of Nova Per 2020, taken on
04Jan21 with the LISA-IR and 05Jan21 with my Alpy600 with the modified CCDwindow on my Atik 414ex (3625-9600A):

With Possible line identifications:
Image
(Note: All identified lines are tentative with the exceptions of the balmer and telluric lines)

Without line identifications:
Image

As mentioned recently, the Nova is now below 15.5V magnitude, which I confirmed last night with a photometry run (btw storms) on my C-11
at F/6.3 using Astrodon photometric BVI filters....will post my Nov20-Jan21 photometry data to AASVO in the next few days.

A very noisy, very low resolution (R~130) spectrum with the ALPY200 in bright moonlight and haze

Cheers

Hi all,
a fresh spectrum of the nova (just completed).

Image

H-alpha emission line is still very strong but its profile has changed a lot in two weeks.

Clear sky!

Hello all,

Impressive result on such a faint target Paolo and congratulations to all for your spectra !
Nova Per 2020 is a more and more challenging target !

Here is my new update for the monitoring of the nova Per 2020 (finally a new clear sky for several days...). The following spectrum of the Nova Per 2020 was obtained the 3rd of February at 22 h 57 TU with my Alpy 600 (resolution of 516, JJ = 2459249.4564) and an acquisition time of 120 min :

What a change since my last spectrum on January 10th !
According to the AAVSO website, the magnitude of the Nova is now close to 16, a drop of 3 magnitudes since my previous observation !!
Light curve of the Nova PER 2020 (AAVSO)
Light curve of the Nova PER 2020 (AAVSO)
The spectrum obtained is noisy but several changes are clearly visible :
Nova Per 2020 on December 6th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 2020 ; on January 9th, 10th and on February 3rd, 2021 (identification of some lines from PlotSpectra).
Nova Per 2020 on December 6th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 2020 ; on January 9th, 10th and on February 3rd, 2021 (identification of some lines from PlotSpectra).
It seems to me that the lines [OII] at 7320A and 7325A are now visible in the spectrum... is that correct?
The relative intensity of the "blue" part of the Halpha line is now very clearly greater than the "red" part :
Nova Per 2020 on December 6th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 2020 ; on January 9th, 10th and on February 3rd, 2021 (Halpha line).
Nova Per 2020 on December 6th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 2020 ; on January 9th, 10th and on February 3rd, 2021 (Halpha line).

The increase in the relative intensity of the [OI] line at 6300A is more and more visible :
Nova Per 2020 on December 6th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 2020 ; on January 9th, 10th and on February 3rd, 2021 ([OI] line).
Nova Per 2020 on December 6th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 2020 ; on January 9th, 10th and on February 3rd, 2021 ([OI] line).

I couldn't find Nova Per tonight (10th February) using an 8 inch SCT. I see there are no entries on AAVSO since 8th February when V band magnitude was 16.1
What's amazing is that the group has managed to collect spectra of this faint object for so long.

Hello all,

On a very starry night but also very cold night (!!), I succeeded, once again, to position the nova in the slit of my Alpy 600 spectrograph, but the exercise is becoming more and more difficult !

Congratulations for your very nice spectra! The nova is so faint...

In the latest spectra it seems the [O III] doublet has grown. The broad 5007A line is clear (prominent blue peak), the 4959A line is weaker but visible. Typical intensity ratio is ~3:1.

Here snow, cold, wind...

Clear sky!
