HI Paolo,

Sadly, I do not see your images/spectrum on the this forum posting, only your text. I just see a little icon that says Image. I am using Safari as the browser on my iMac and Microsoft Edge as the browser on my Windows 10 PC. I meant to post my most recent spectrum of Nova Per 2020 but the other word besides Spectroscopy that begins with an "S" , Skiing yesterday took me away from the computer:)

Here are a two PlotSpectra plots of my most recent observation of Nova Per 2020. It is increasing slightly in brightness and still sharing it photons with us:) I measured it at 15.75 at the time of taking the spectra. One plot is expanded to better see some weaker lines and the other at normal scaling such that we can see the two peaks which a nearly equal for Hapha.

Ciao!
Woody

Great spectrum Woody! I saw it on ARAS db. It's very interesting to see so many features beside h-alpha line.

Strange that you can't see my pictures. This is the first time somebody says that to me. I can reach them on ARAS forum with Safari for IOS or MS Edge on Win10. I'll e-mail you...

So, you're a ski enthusiast? I also, but years ago... I'm lucky to live very close to high mountains. Many ski facilities there but closed at this time for the pandemic.

See you!
Paolo

Hello all,

Woody : as Paolo says, it's a very nice spectrum and the comparison with mine, obtained around the same date, is really very interesting !

Paolo : what evolution of the Halpha lineshape at high resolution in your stacked chart, including the structures visible between the 2 peaks !
There is certainly a lot to be said about the evolution of these structures...

The following spectrum of the Nova Per 2020 was obtained the 6th of March at 19 h 45 TU with my Alpy 600 (resolution of 513, JJ = 2459280.3228) and an acquisition time of 130 min (13 x 600s) :

Nova Per 2020 on February 12th, 27th and March 6th, 2021 (identification of some lines from PlotSpectra)
Nova Per 2020 on February 12th, 27th and March 6th, 2021 (identification of some lines from PlotSpectra)
I can also see two peaks for the Halpha line of nearly equal intensities.
According to the spectra which are in the database, it seems to me that the blue peak has become less intense than the red peak approximately between March 6 and 8...and the relative intensities of all lines continue to increase !

Clear skies,

Hello all,

Here is my new update for the monitoring of the nova Per 2020.
The following spectrum was obtained the 19th of March at 19 h 57 TU with my Alpy 600 (resolution of 516, JJ = 2459293.3315) and an acquisition time of 120 min (12 x 600s) :
Nova Per 2020 on March 19th, 2021 (identification of some lines from PlotSpectra)
Nova Per 2020 on March 19th, 2021 (identification of some lines from PlotSpectra)
Clear skies,

Hi all,

the nova has gained brightness (about one magnitude) compared to the mag 16 minimum that occurred in mid-February.

Christophe, very nice profiles! You were around minimum in February spectra (very faint target!).

Yesterday observation, mid-res as usual. The h-alpha line profile changed a lot.

Clear sky!

Yesterday I tried nova Persei 2020 now practically at magnitude +15. Ionized oxygen and nitrogen species seems predominate, with weakened Balmer lines. Juan José

280 days since discovery. Strong forbidden lines with a very weak continuum (scaled to 1 at 5500A). Vmag is ~15 but almost 80% of the flux in the V passband comes from just the pair of [OIII] lines
