A new publication about the identification of a symbiotic star in the context of our observing program.
Congratulations to Pavol and thank you to Jaroslav.

Hello everyone,

I am happy to announce, that the first paper on the suspected/misclassified symbiotics was accepted in MNRAS yesterday and is now available on arXiv: https://arxiv.org/abs/2107.05953. Once again, many thanks to all the observers who participated in the campaign so far and whose results were essential for the analysis.

In the paper, we present the results on Hen 3-860, V2204 Oph, V1988 Sgr, Hen 4-204, V562 Lyr, IRAS 19050+0001, EC 19249-7343, V1017 Cyg, PN K1-6, V379 Peg. We have another paper in the review process in MNRAS, focusing solely on Hen 3-860, presenting the in-depth analysis of available spectroscopic and photometric data (more than 120 years of observations).

The second paper in the series on candidates would focus on the candidates on symbiotic novae, I will post the updated list of targets soon (some objects for the paper were already observed last year). In the meantime, we still continue in the monitoring of V503 Her until the end of this observing season.

Congratulations to all contributors, looks like a great paper although my brain is a bit fogged from too many observing nights chasing nova asassn-21lk, and now some mystery object asassn-21mk. When the smoke clears, I will hopefully gain some understanding from reading it.

Again, well done everyone!

Hello everyone,

for the second part of the project focused on suspected/misclassified symbiotic stars, we would like to collect the data on suspected symbiotic novae. Some of the objects were already observed as they were in the previous list. Still for some, it would be good to obtain another spectrum to have observations from two independent telescopes. I also include some additional Z And-type candidates and 9 objects detected in brightenings selected from Gaia Alerts.

The list of suspected symbiotic novae (first three were already observed once in the scope of the campaign):
  • V618 Sgr (V ~ 10)
    V5590 Sgr (V ~ 13)
    ASAS J174600-2321.3 (Sgr, V ~ 13)
    TYC 1371-69-1 (Gem, V ~ 10)
    V917 Sco (V ~ 15; very crowded region)
    V627 Cas (V ~ 13)

Additional Z And-type cancidates:
  • AS 280 (Sgr, V ~ 13)
    V850 Aql (Mira variable with V ~ 14 - 16; period of 390 d; now relatively faint, next maximum in April 2022)
V1290 Aql (Mira variable with V ~ 14 - 16; period of 280d; now faint, next maximum in March 2022, then second half of December 2022)
Candidates from Gaia Alerts (some are in rather crowded regions):
  • Gaia19dxh (Sgr, G ~ 11.7; RA 19:20:34.95, DEC -13:37:11.96)
    Gaia19dpl (Cen, G ~ 12.1; RA 13:12:12.26, DEC -48:58:38.71)
    Gaia21dxi (Sco, G ~ 12.6; RA 17:48:27.35, DEC -44:11:38.04)
    Gaia20fut (Vel, G ~ 13.1; RA 08:51:30.36, DEC -44:40:09.91)
    Gaia18ctm (Mus, G ~ 13.6; RA 13:47:13.51, DEC -70:10:12.76)
    Gaia18cwv (Sco, G ~ 13.7; RA 17:52:47.77, DEC -34:31:21.83)
    Gaia18bec (Scu, G ~ 14.0; RA 18:33:42.40, DEC -14:13:52.03)
    Gaia18cfh (Sgr, G ~ 14.1; RA 17:44:15.19, DEC -25:15:40.64)
    Gaia21axn (Sgr, G ~ 14.9; RA 18:05:44.31, DEC -24:33:32.44)

You do like to set us a challenge Jaroslav

When the weather clears I will be onto these. Its a bit late in the season for Sgr and Sco but lets see what we can do

Here is a spectrum of V627 Cas taken on 17th October with a LISA spectrograph. The spectrum has been calibrated in absolute flux using a concurrently measured V magnitude of 11.99. The spectrum has been submitted to the ARAS database.

Hello everyone,
thanks to Jaroslav for giving us this new and exciting challenge. From his list I decided to treat the simplest Gaia object, Gaia10dxh, and acquired some spectra yesterday 20 October from my observatory located in the light pollution of a small town. After a comparison with the star map to be more sure that I selected the right star, I started to place on my slit the star that should be Gaia19dxh. As you can see from the scatter image taken in 1000 seconds, it appears to be a cold star. I compared the resulting spectrum from a combination of just 5 spectra with an M6III (from ISIS software) and it seems to match. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I have also tried a couple of these targets. Most set soon after dark so will not really be observable until next season. I took spectra of V917 Sco and Gaia19dxh.
V917 Sco shows a K type star with a small Ha absorption.
Gaia10dxh is a M star with no emission lines as Paolo also found. I will send them to ARAS also.

I obtained spectra for V618 Sgr on 18 and 19 October 2021. I have attached the spectrum for 19 October 2021 - the 18 October observation was in close agreement with this. It represents 1.5 hours taken with a UVEX mounted on a PW CDK 12.5. ISIS reports the resolution as 1461. SNR is around 45 - 50. I measured a V mag of 9.54 with simultaneous photometry. The spectrum has been adjusted to reflect this.

I've marked the key emission lines identified in Kilkenny, D in 1989 (https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/#abs/1989 ... K/abstract) I don't find any emissions that correspond with the 1989 observations. Given this, I'll do a follow up observation in the next few days.

Hi All
another star from the list.
Gaia21dxi. Looks like a late K or M star to me with no emission or unexpected absorptions. It is a bit nosy as it was only 20deg above the horizon when I finished.
