SN AT2020vak in M31

Post by Dubreuil Pierre »

Bonjour a tous

Mon collègue Matthieu Conjat, president de notre association d'astronomie AQUILA à Nice signale une forte activité de cette SN !
Il me demande si des spectres pourraient etre realisés .
Toute l'info ici http://www.astrosurf.com/topic/140862-g ... -dans-m31/

Cordialement

Hi Pierre

It is an interesting transient but why do you say it is a supernova? I think that it is unlikely to be a supernova from the brightness

and the spectrum

Hi Robin

At one point, the doubt was there!
It seems now with the first spectra that this would indeed be more of a Nova signature.
Our specters will confirm all of this.

Hi Pierre,

it is quite bright for a nova in M31 though and it does not show any nova features in the spectrum yet so it will definitely be interesting to try to take more spectra. It could perhaps even be a foreground dwarf nova. Has anyone looked in images for a precursor? (probably difficult because of the brightness of M31 background)

Here are a few M31 nova spectra with the ALPY 600

Cheers

Hi,

Here is the spectrum I've performed, hope there will be others.
The nova is very close to bright core of m31, thus the continuum may not be reliable.
