finetuning pipeline in SPcAudace

Post by Erik Bryssinck »

Hello,

I have some questions regarding the fine tuning of the SPcAudace software and especially the pipelines. At the start of the pipeline several windows are discussed, where selections have to be made.

One of these is the selection of the calibration lines of the calibration lamp, in my case the LHiResIII lamp. I almost always work with the 2400 l/mm, so 3 lines appear in my image. Is there a possibility that these 3 lines are already pre-filled in the window so I only need to click 'OK' .

a second: I selected in the first window to create a PNG graphic. So there will be a window where a number of fields have to be filled in as well. Most of them are filled in automatically, only the instrument is not filled in. What can be done to have this filled in automatically, because it is always the same. a certain field in the FITS header of the images or a certain file in SPcAudace that can be modified ?

thanking in advance !
kind regards

(Google traducter)

For the first question, the lines remain in memory until SpcAudace is not closed.
But there is better. If you add a txt file named lines_file.txt in the working directory and by adding to it (for example):

103 6532.882
671 6598.953
1379 6678.276

SpcAudace will no longer ask you to select the neon lines. It's automatic.

The first digits of each line are the columns (approximate 30 pixels) where the lines of the neon appear on the spectre of neon.

Hi Franck,

Thanks for the tip! I created this file and put it in the working directory. It works perfectly!

For the second question, the keyword EQUIPMEN must appear in the fit (fits) header of the images.

ex: EQUIPMEN = 'LHIRESIII 2400 35 QSI516'

Tested with SpcAudace 4.9.

Hello Erik,

About your second question, Spcaudace actually use the following FITS kewords to fill the window: OBJNAME, TELESCOP, EQUIPMEN.
But I've done a patch that use OBJECT and INSTRUME keywords if the default ones don't exist.

To download Spcaudace's patchs, go to http://spcaudace.free.fr, "The latest news" and click "In the next version/release ...".
You will then have to replace some TCL files in your Spcaudace's directory.

Cheers,

Hello, Benji & Franck,

Thank you for the quick solution. I adapted the keywords in the FITS of MAXIMDL and also downloaded the files and replaced them in the right directory.
Next observation, I can see if everything is going well.
I suspect so.

Thanks for the support !

all the best,
Erik

Hello, Benji & Franck,

I used the clear night last night to record some spectra. After adding the keywords in the fits-header in MaximDL (v6) I see that the description is now automatically included in the PNG window of SPcAudace. However, the object name is not included (below a crop of the FITS-header of the RAW image. In the FITS header the default keyword in MaximDL is 'Object', I can't delete or change this, so I added 'OBJNAME' as an extra but that is not automatically filled in (which i suspected). I suspect that MaximDL doesn't support this, or I don't find it anyway how to do.

@ Benji, I've also downloaded the files mentioned on the website and placed them in the right directory, but apparently the 'object name' doesn't come with it anyway.

all tips are welcome !

Hello Erik,

The patch I've done allows Spcaudace to manage OBJECT and INSTRUME keywors too.
So you don't need to add OBJNAME and EQUIPMEN.
As you can notice, your OBJNAME isn't filled by Maxim, so as OBJNAME is the first keyword checked by Spcaudace, it will then print empty data for the spectroscope in plot's title.

In order to finish the patch installation you have to reboot Audela.
