New online ARAS database

Dear All,

I'm very pleased (you don’t know how much) to announce that the first release of the new ARAS database is online.

In 2009, by meeting the world of spectroscopy during OHP star party, we were already talking about a database, in addition to BESS
In 2013, after several unsuccessful attempts by different guys, I decided to build a basic database (using a vba excel code) in order to gather the spectra of various objects acquired during observing campaigns. Despite its rusticity, the interest of the database had been demonstrated by the use of many of our spectra in about one hundred publications (novae, dwarf novae, symbiotic stars). The consistency of the database has been improved by the replacement of the vba by a python code. Nevertheless, it remains very basic.

Thanks to the involvement of Jaroslav Merc, PHD student at Astronomical Institute of Charles University (Praga) , the new ARAS database is online.
At the day, only the symbiotics section is reachable. The other sections (Novae and Dwarf Novae) will be updated very soon. Some missing information (lists of observers, sites, conditions of use ... ) will be added during the week.

The new asdb is interactive.
It is based of html pages built with a python code.
It will allow an easy maintenance and development.
And last, but not least for me (after the entry of more than 8000 spectra since 2013 ...), it will be possible to share the update.

The database is linked to the professional New Online Symbiotic database - http://astronomy.science.upjs.sk/symbiotics/
At the date, and during the developement, the database is hosted on github.
Discussions are ongoing for hosting the database by a professional institute.
The process for submitting spectra remains unchanged: send spectra to francoismathieu.teyssier at gmail.com and a copy to arasdatabase at gmail.com (double check by David Boyd and Woody Sims)

Access to the Symbiotics section: https://aras-database.github.io/databas ... otics.html

Once again, many thanks to Jaroslav for this wonderful tool.
and thank you to all the observers who are contributing.

For you and for Jaroslav !!

This is one new and important step in your long and constant job in the Aras Spectral Database.
Sure the new Aras Spectral Database will be a useful tool and one new encouragement for all of us.

By the way, after more than two months of bad weather without any one good night,
the forecasts say that the weather is coming back soon. I hope to have the Piera
and SMM telescopes ready in a few days.

Congratulations to you both again !

Amicalement, Joan.

Thanks a lot, Joan,
And thank you for all the valuable contributions that you provides, both spectra and spectroscopy.
Jaroslav has done a wonderfull work. I fell very happy (for the first time in a long time, you know what I mean: peacefully).
François

Outstanding work, congratulations François, Jaroslav!

ARAS community is growing and enhancing the sharing tools, I'm happy to be in this team (with my little contribution, nothing compared to that of the "largest shareholder" Joan ;) )!

A warm thank you!

Paolo

Hello François,

Nice work. Many thanks to Jaroslav and you for this new database version.
I hope that it will help you to manage the database in the futur.
